A 5-card new moon in Scorpio tarot spread for Nov 9, 2026: what each card asks, how to lay it out, and why Scorpio belongs to the Death card.

You know that thing you keep saying you're over? Yeah. This new moon in Scorpio tarot spread is for that. Five cards and a very polite request that you stop carrying stuff you already decided to drop. I'm told I'm not great at letting go, so consider this a group project.

Quick ground rules. Taroter is for entertainment and reflection, and so is this spread. The cards don't predict anything, the moon doesn't either, and nothing here is medical, legal or money advice. If something heavy comes up, talk to a real person who's qualified to help.

When is the November 2026 new moon?

According to timeanddate.com, the new moon lands on November 9, 2026, at 1:02 a.m. in Edmonton (Mountain Time) and 2:02 a.m. Eastern. That's 07:02 UTC. On the West Coast it falls late on the night of Nov 8. Astrology sites including Moonfall Metaphysical put it at about 16°53′ Scorpio, with the Sun and Moon both in the sign.

A new moon is the darkest night of the lunar month, when the Moon sits between Earth and the Sun and you can't see it at all. Astrologers treat it as a fresh start. Scorpio is the sign of secrets, endings and grudges with excellent memories. Put those together and the theme writes itself: clear something out so there's room for whatever comes next.

One more thing. Mercury is still retrograde until Nov 13, so if your ex picked this week to resurface, my Mercury retrograde tarot spread is right there.

Scorpio's tarot card: Death

In the Golden Dawn system, the Scorpio tarot card is Death, card XIII. Before you panic, the Death tarot card meaning has very little to do with anyone dying. On the Rider-Waite-Smith card, a skeleton in black armour rides a white horse and carries a black banner with a white rose on it. In the background, the sun is coming up between two towers, so the ending comes with a sunrise.

That's why it fits this moon so well. Scorpio and Death both deal with the part of change people avoid: the actual goodbye. The habit, the situationship, the version of you that kept saying "it's fine." I wrote a full Death tarot card meaning guide too, and it goes up on Nov 7.

The 5-card new moon in Scorpio tarot spread

Shuffle, cut, and lay five cards in a shallow V, left to right. Cards 1 and 5 sit highest, card 3 sits lowest in the middle, like a bowl. Pull it any night from Nov 8 to Nov 10. Nobody's checking.

New Moon in Scorpio tarot spread layout diagram in Rider-Waite style: five cards in a shallow V, left to right. 1 The Receipt, what you're still keeping proof of. 2 The Sting, what you're guarding against. 3 The Lights-Off Truth, what you know in the dark. 4 The Unfollow, what you're ready to let go of. 5 The Empty Shelf, what the space could hold

1. The Receipt

What am I still keeping proof of?

Scorpio never forgets, and some of you have screenshots. This card shows the old hurt or mistake you keep filed away "just in case." Be honest about how often you reread it.

2. The Sting

What am I guarding against?

A scorpion stings when it feels cornered. This card points at the defence you put up: the sarcasm, the silence, the wall. It may have kept you safe once. Ask whether it still does.

3. The Lights-Off Truth

What do I already know when nobody's watching?

This is the new moon card, sitting at the bottom of the V where it's darkest. It's the thing you admit to yourself at 1 a.m. and deny by breakfast. You don't have to act on it tonight. Just look at it.

4. The Unfollow

What am I ready to let go of?

The release card. A person, a pattern, a story about yourself that stopped being true. Keep the answer specific, like "checking his stories at midnight."

5. The Empty Shelf

What could the space hold once it's clear?

Read this one as a reflection on what might feel lighter once you put the old thing down. There are no dates on this card and no promised new love or new job. Treat it as a nudge about what you could make room for.

How to read it

Start at the bottom. Card 3 is the anchor, so read it first and let the others lean on it.

Then read 1 and 4 as a pair. The Receipt is what you're holding, the Unfollow is what you're willing to drop. If they match, great, you have your answer. If they don't, ask why you're happy to let go of something minor while the big thing stays filed.

Next, 2 and 5. The Sting shows what you're scared of, and the Empty Shelf shows what you'd have room for. If card 2 is the Five of Cups and card 5 is the Star, the guard you built around an old disappointment might be blocking some hope. Fun.

Reversals count if you use them. On a new moon a reversed card often reads as something still underground: not ready, or working on you quietly.

Cards that love a Scorpio new moon

These turn up a lot when people are in letting-go mode:

  • Death. Scorpio's own card. In the Unfollow position, it's about as clear as tarot gets.
  • Eight of Cups. Walking away from something that looks fine on paper. Nobody has to understand why you're leaving.
  • The Moon. Fog, fear and half-truths. In position 3, it says you know more than you're admitting.
  • The Tower. Something you built on a shaky base. Read it in context before you spiral.
  • Judgement. The wake-up call. It sits well in the Empty Shelf spot as a fresh start you choose for yourself.

If the scary cards are your thing, I ranked the worst tarot cards to pull. And if you'd rather sit alone with your lantern for a bit, read up on the Hermit tarot card meaning.

Me? Let go of something? Please.

Anyone watching Not Like I Waited knows I'm the last person who should lecture you about moving on. I keep receipts. I keep the receipts' receipts. So yes, I'm pulling this spread on Nov 9 too, and no, I won't be telling you what came up in card 4. Some things stay in the dark. It's a new moon.

Frequently asked questions

What is a new moon in Scorpio tarot spread?

It's a tarot layout built around the Scorpio new moon's themes: endings, secrets, and making room for something new. This one uses five cards to look at what you're holding onto and what you're ready to release.

When is the new moon in Scorpio in 2026?

November 9, 2026, at 07:02 UTC, per timeanddate.com. That's 1:02 a.m. Mountain Time in Edmonton and 2:02 a.m. Eastern, and late on Nov 8 on the West Coast.

What tarot card is Scorpio?

Death, card XIII, in the Golden Dawn system that the Rider-Waite-Smith deck draws on.

Does the Death card mean someone will die?

No. Readers treat Death as a card about endings and change. And Taroter is for entertainment, so nobody's fate is riding on a card.

Can I use this as a regular new moon tarot spread?

Yes. The questions work under any new moon, or any time you're trying to let something go.

Pull a card before the lights go out

Not ready for five cards? Start with one. Pull a card at Taroter, pick a reader (I'm an option, obviously), and ask it what you're ready to let go of. Then actually let it go. I'll be over here, pretending I already did.

Taroter is for entertainment purposes only. Not intended as a prediction of future events. Must be 18 years of age or older.
